12/30/2005 - Colin turns 9 today. Happy Birthday Colin!
12/27/2005 - Went to the Kennedy Center to check out some traditional Irish music.
Billy McComiskey,
Zan McLeod,
and
Brendan Mulvihill performed traditional
Irish music on the button accordion, flute, fiddle, guitar, and bodhran, accompanied by
The Culkin School of Traditional
Irish Dance. Billy McComiskey will be inducted into the
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann's Mid-Atlantic Region Hall of Fame this
February.
12/26/2005 - Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I took some pics
from Christmas at my sister's house. I posted them to the Photo
Gallery.
12/22/2005 - Colin and I went to see
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
tonight. What a show! Music, pyrotechnics, lasers, fake snow
and an amazing light show made this concert one of the best I've ever
seen. This was Colin's first indoor concert (he saw an outdoor
performance by Little Feat over the summer). He was amazed at the
performance. I think most concerts he'll see in the future will
have a tough time measuring up to the performance he saw tonight.
12/12/2005 - Christmas came early for Colin this year
when
Helene surprised Colin with his
Christmas gifts this past Sunday. Helene is
going to Las Vegas (go ahead & say it;
"Vegas Baby!") for Christmas. Well to be
truthful, she's not just going to Vegas for
Christmas, she has business out there as
well. Merry Christmas Helene!
12/1/2005 - Went with Colin's class on a field trip to
the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History. Lots of fun and lots of
Dads chipping in to help. In fact, I'd say there was an even mix of
Dads and Moms volunteering as Chaperones.
11/24/2005 - Great Thanksgiving. Friends, family and pie! Started
off at my friend Helene's house and then over to my sister's.
Played some poker with the family. My sister made up her on version of a
poker game which involved 8 wild cards and a 7 card hand. Colin won the
first hand with five of a kind and a pair. Needless to say, the game was
not a hit.
11/16/2005 - Jimmy started a new job last night.
He's working at S&K Menswear in Aquia. I stopped by last night to say hello (I was
his first customer).
10/29/2005 - Little League Fall Ball ended today on a high note. Our team
played well and ended the season with a tied ballgame. A highlight for me in
the fourth inning was that Colin struck out three batters
with 11 pitches.
10/17/2005 - Colin hit a triple in tonight's baseball game!
10/11/2005 - Colin helped me cut the outfield grass of the baseball
field today. The first time he drove a John Deere tractor/lawn mower by
himself. Quite a proud moment for me (it's a guy thing).
10/03/2005 - It's my brother's 40th birthday. Happy Birthday Tim!
10/01/2005 - Lost the game this morning. We went four innings. Colin
closed out last inning and struck out three batters with 13 pitches!
Today is also Leanna's birthday. Leanna is Jimmy's girlfriend of almost
3 years. Leanna turned 21 today. Happy Birthday Leanna!
9/30/2005 - We won another. Lots of hits from the team. Colin had a double.
09/24/2005 - What a game! We lost, but still the boys played well. Colin hit
well. Next game is scheduled on the 30th. Colin may pitch on the 1st.
09/22/2005 - Colin's team played last night and we won, 8 - 4! Our second game
of the season and our first win. Colin hit a
2 run home run. Big
night for him.
09/18/2005 - We had our first baseball game for the fall season
yesterday and we had a blast! We lost 10-7, but we had fun.
Colin played two innings at catcher and two at bats (struck out both
times swinging, I'll have to work on that).
09/04/2005 - The fall season Little League Baseball has started again. I'm
managing Colin's baseball team, the Athletics. They're in the AA division
team. The first season the kids will pitch to each other. Colin wants to
pitch and he looks like he'll do well.
09/01/2005 - My house sold. Still searching for another house.
08/14/2005 - I went to the
Loudoun Summer Music Fest to see
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. Great show! I was
up close to the stage for the first few songs, but I wimped out and had to move back
a ways to let my ears recover. Joan Jett (and the Blackhearts) rocked. The played
all the favorites and about 5 songs off her new Album "Naked". The opening act,
Niki Barr, is certainly worth mentioning. Niki and the
band had good stage presence, played well and kept the crowd rocking.
08/11/2005 - Went to see
Andrew McKnight tonight at the Herndon Town Green. It was part pf Herndon's
Summer Concert Series.
Andrew's musical style is a blend of folk, blues and bluegrass. Tonight's performance was very
special. Andrew had a band backing him tonight;
Lisa Taylor on percussion and vocals, Ralph Gordon on fretless bass and Dana Conner on vocals.
I like the acoustic sets I've seen Andrew perform over the past 6 years, but what a difference a band made
tonight. Check
Andrew's site
for more local gigs. Andrew lives in the area, but tours Nationally, so catch him while you can.
08/07/2005 - Last night's
Potomac Nationals game had a surprise! No one from Colin's Little League showed.
So when the Director of Community Relations,
Maureen Connolly, asked Colin if he wanted to go out on the field to be introduced,
he understandably declined. Maureen later stopped by and told Colin that she had a
surprise for him. She asked Colin if he wanted to go meet some of the players
in the Nationals dugout. Off she went with Colin, only to return without him. Maureen
said that the Manager,
Bob Henley, asked Colin to sit in the dugout for an inning! Colin said that he
was slightly teased about his uniform (Colin was in his Little League Orioles uniform).
Colin was asked to removed his hat and wear a helmet while sitting in the dugout (safety
reasons). He spoke with Mike Hinkley (Pitcher) and Robert Rodriguez, one of the
catchers. Thank you Maureen and Bob for making last night's game memorable for us.
08/05/2005 - Dad Camp has been going well. This week's events:

08/04/2005 - My house sold (again), well not again. The first contract
fell through. Another contract is in and I expect it to follow through.
07/18/2005 - Dad Camp! What is "Dad Camp"? I take a week off of work
and Colin and I spend the week doing stuff together, not just
sitting around the house in front of the TV. This week's events
- Monday: We saw the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and
went to a Potomac Nationals game
- Tuesday: Six Flags America
- Wednesday: Kings Dominion
- Thursday: Another Potomac Nationals game, this one with the family
- Friday: We went to see a Frederick Keys game (this one had fireworks
after it)
- Saturday: Live music at Reston Town Center "British Invasion"
- Sunday: Little Feat at Loudoun Summer Music Fest
07/17/2005 - I went to the
Loudoun Summer Music Fest to
see
Kansas. I've listened to
their music over the years, but never caught their show. What a performance!
06/04/2005 - Added pictures of the Loudoun Little League All-Star
game.
02/26/2005 - Colin has started baseball this season (
www.llbaseball.com).
I'm the manager and we have a couple of great coaches. Jimmy is
shopping for a laptop and we think we've decided on the
Dell Inspiron 6000.
